作者介紹

ArthurConan Doyle (柯南.道爾)was the inventor of Sherlock Holmes, the world’s most famousfictional detective. Lots of people think Sherlock Holmes is a real person andwrite to 221b Baker Street, London, his address in ConanDoyle’s stories! Doyle was born in Edinburgh, Scotland in1859. He worked as a doctor until 1891, when he became a full-time writer. Hisfirst story was a novel called A Study in Scarlet. He then wrote a series ofshort stories called The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which were published ininstallments by The Strand Magazine. The public loved them, and wanted to readmore about Sherlock Holmes and his faithful friend, Dr. Watson.

Conan Doyle fought in the Boer War(1899-1902) in South Africa,and when he returned to Londonhe was given the title of ‘Sir’. Eventually Conan Doyle became tired of writingabout the detective and decided to “kill” his creation.

ArthurConan Doyle died in 1930. He wrote many books, but most of all he’s rememberedfor his 56 Sherlock Holmes stories, where he described the exploits of one ofthe most popular characters in international literature.
